Thinking Futures: Violent portrayals or violent betrayals

Violent portrayals or violent betrayals: representations of violence

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Nov 2014

This free event seeks to understand and challenge the extent to which specific narratives on conflicts reflect the day-to-day reality of those living in a war zone. We will first view and discuss how both documentary and fiction film representations of conflict from the African continent hold implications for local people and on lasting solutions for peace. Then join our panel of experts in looking at how alternative portrayals can help us rethink current understandings of violence and security.

Thinking Futures is a week-long Festival to share and celebrate research from the University of Bristol's Faculty of Social Sciences and Law. The programme comprises a wide variety of events for the general public, schools, policy-makers and third sector organisations.
