Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Sept 2015

Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.

Many of us have experienced the frustration of running out of battery power on a mobile phone or tablet when on-the-go. What if you could transfer battery power between your mobile devices simply by bringing them together? What if you could give your battery power to a friend in need? Or ask a stranger for some power? And all this without a cable or charger in sight.

In this week's talk, Diego, Jarrod and Paul from Bristol Interaction Group at Bristol University will present PowerStream; a system which allows users to quickly share power between mobile devices, using inductive power transfer. We'll be engaging in an open discussion around the design and social implications of ‘power-interactions,’ assisted by mock ups and practical explorations of mobile power as a sharable commodity. The talk will be a fun and interactive examination of mobile charging and our relationship with power.

The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
