The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion we are showcasing five previous winners of the BAFTA Outstanding Debut Award, that feature some of the leading British directorial talent to emerge since the turn of the millennium.

Including Steve McQueen’s devastating glimpse of political violence and personal sacrifice Hunger (Sun 2 July); Lynne Ramsay’s breathtaking and assured debut Ratcatcher (Sun 9 July); Joe Wright’s hugely entertaining Austen adaptation Pride & Prejudice (Sun 16 July); Asif Kapadia’s sweeping mythical adventure The Warrior (Sun 23 July); and Duncan Jones’ mesmerising tale of intergalactic loneliness Moon (Sun 30 July).
