BAFTA Preview: The King's Speech Q&A

The King's Speech is an award-winning British historical drama directed by Tom Hooper. It stars Colin Firth as King George VI, and Geoffrey Rush as the speech therapist Lionel Logue, who famously helped the king overcome his stammer. The film has received wide critical acclaim, as well as a large number of awards and nominations.

Ian Canning is a producer who has an impressive resume of award-winning films under his belt. He has worked as executive producer on Control (2007), Hunger (2008), and The Kings of Mykonos (2010), alongside working as co-executive producer on Max & Mary (2009), and producer on Oranges and Sunshine (2010). In 2008 he co-founded ‘See Saw Films’, an independent film production company operating out of both London and Sydney.

Gareth Unwin produced The King’s Speech with Iain Canning, and is co-founder of the London based ‘Bedlam Productions Ltd’. His films include Nomad (2005), Three (2005), and the BAFTA-nominated Exam (2009).

Mark Cosgrove, Watershed's Head of Programme, hosts this discussion with the producers of the film, Iain Canning and Gareth Unwin, who answer questions about funding, casting, development, research and the royal family.
