- Online showcase of creative work
Watershed's showcase of creative work, talks, commissions, innovation, artist journals, festival diaries & archive projects
All the fascinating stories featured in Bristol Stories have been devised and made by local people using computers, photographs and personal archives such as home movies, family documents or objects with a special meaning or significance. At the heart of each story is the creator’s unique voice.
Aug 2005 - present
In the firm belief that everyone has at least one story within them that they want to tell, Bristol Stories, Watershed’s creative digital storytelling project, has been bringing these personal experiences to life since 2005.
Over 200 stories made by the people of Bristol are featured on the site. Many of the stories focus on peoples’ experiences of Bristol: what brought them here, and what it is like to live and work here. The entire collection gives a fascinating insight into Bristol’s history and development.
What lies at the heart of each story is an individual’s unique voice – telling the rest of us about the people, places and events that are important in their lives. The stories are produced through facilitated workshops using computers, photographs and personal archives such as home movies, family documents or objects with a special meaning or significance. Sharing these powerful and personal stories with others in a workshop, and then with a wider audience online, is part of the magic of the process.
From 2005 until 2007, the project was run as a partnership between Watershed and Bristol Museums, Galleries and Archives Service aimed at involving the public in the development of content for the new Museum of Bristol.
Since July 2007, Bristol Stories has continued to work with organisations and communities across Bristol, enabling diverse individuals to tell their many stories.
Bristol Stories demonstrates Watershed’s extensive out-reach work and its commitment to working with and supporting communities across Bristol. If you want to find out about telling your own Bristol story get in touch at email@example.com.
