Watershed’s Head of Programme, Mark Cosgrove, interviewed John Minton; a Bristol-based filmmaker known for his experimental, lo-fi, and hallucinatory style of filmmaking. Characterised by grainy super-8 textures, a palette of iridescent, glowing hues, and mesmerisingly evocative imagery, John’s distinctive visual flair has lent itself to music videos for Portishead, Robert Plant, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, and Gonga.

In this interview, John discussed his background, influences, filmmaking techniques, and shared stories about some of the brilliant people he has worked with, including Portishead, Robert Plant, and punk poet Jock Scott.
