Rachel Gadsden is an award winning artist who has travelled to South Africa to meet and collaborate with a group of artists, who like her, are kept alive by medication. After she chanced upon a painting that really spoke to her, she embarked on a quest to find its creator, as she explains in this film. Unlimited Global Alchemy is the result of that quest.

The politics and myths surrounding chronic health conditions and in particular HIV/AIDS, fragility, resilience and survival against the odds are at the heart of this inter-continental collaboration. Works created both in South Africa and the UK include a body of paintings and drawings by Gadsden and the Bambanani Group; with films, catalogues, performances, talks and workshops involving twenty collaborators from across the globe.

Unlimited Global Alchemy was co-commissioned by the British Council.
