Here you will find a diverse range of opportunities - such as professional development schemes, kids' workshops and screenings, artist residencies, filmmaking competitions and stuff for schools - and information on how to get more involved with us and our partners.

We are always open to new ideas and collaborations so do get in touch with Hannah Higginson, our Engagement Projects Producer, if you are interested in having a chat. Hannah works with a wide variety of people to coordinate a diverse range of projects that enable audiences to discover, connect and be creative at Watershed.

Current Opportunities

  • BFI Film Academy Bristol

    Aged 16 – 19? Passionate about film? Want to work in the industry? Applications are now open for the BFI Film Academy Bristol. Academy participants will get an insider’s perspective on what it’s like to work in film from writing scripts to getting movies to the cinema screen. There are all sorts of different jobs in the film industry done by diverse types of people and the Academy will help you to find your place and get the skills and experience needed to realise your creative ideas. No qualifications necessary.

  • Cinékids: A Cat in Paris

    Join us at a special animation-inspired afternoon for kids! Watch the beautiful animated film, A Cat in Paris and then bring your own pets to life in the animation workshop that follows.

  • Ten Pieces

    We're inviting schools and families to watch a film designed to introduce a generation of children to ten pieces of classical music. Each piece will be introduced by a celebrity presenter, and will be performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

    From making and showcasing high-quality super-short documentaries on Bristol matters, to devising, designing, and delivering a fantastic film and music event, this group of talented and ambitious 16 - 19 year olds have made the most of their time with the BFI Film Academy Bristol.

  • Rife Magazine - new online platform now launched

    Rife Magazine, an online platform by young people for young people, has officially launched and is covering, events, local news and social issues. A partnership between Watershed and Bristol Youth Links, Rife currently employs four young journalists to curate the online magazine and ensure the stories are relevant and interesting to other young people like them.

Call for Entries

Do you want to get your work seen? Submit your films to one of Watershed’s competitions or festivals such as Encounters, DepicT! and Electric December

Volunteering

Festivals such as Encounters International Film Festival, Wildscreen and Afrika Eye rely on the help of volunteers. Whenever there are opportunities to volunteer for these and other specific Watershed projects details will be listed here
