Fresh Flix: Inspiring Young Creative Talent
Posted in: Creative DevelopmentWatershed’s Future Producers, a group of 16 talented young people from Bristol, cooked up this year’s Fresh Flix, our film and cross art-form strand for kids, young people and their families that ran throughout Autumn cumulating in the launch of Electric December.
Fresh Flix kicked off at Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, with the charming animation Tigers and Tattoos, which was followed by a (family friendly!) tattoo parlour. The fun continued when Will Rose who was selected for the Children’s Jury, a popular programme of shorts for kids, joined us for an animal animation workshop. For Encounters we also teamed up with FILMCLUB for school events, which were enjoyed by students at the venue and through FILMCLUB webcasts. Primary schools had the chance to meet the director of ParaNorman whilst at Inside Out secondary schools heard an industry panel's top tips on breaking into the film industry.
We also worked with The Station, Bristol's latest exciting venture for young people for a screening of Ice-T's Something for Nothing: The Art of Rap and a music video making masterclass. Those of you with a love of the stage enjoyed Fifth Column's Tempest, a re-imagining of Shakespeare's last great play with a very modern twist. We celebrated the Day of the Dead, with a special screening of Corpse Bride and workshop with local puppeteer Becca Rose. Families of all shapes and sizes joined us for National Adoption Week and a special screening of The Year Dolly Parton was my Mum followed by a tea party and quilting workshop. Then as part of the French Film Festival we screened Ernest and Celestine and kids got to create characters with Thomas Docherty in our illustration workshop.
