This lunchtime talk is the culmination of a two day workshop at Watershed, exploring RAM - a new kind of choreographic motion capture tool. Come along to hear more from the Japanese team who developed the tool, see it in action and hear from those who have had chance to try it out.

The RAM system (which stands for Reactor for Awareness in Motion) was developed by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) in Japan working with dancers from The Forsythe Company.  It consists of a specially designed motion capture system and software that visualises a virtual environment and creates interaction between the body's movement, other dancers wearing the system, and the environment.

A new way of thinking about and creating dance, RAM is simple to use and described most effectively in this short video:

The RAM Taster Workshop and lunchtime talk is produced by Watershed and Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, and is supported by Daiwa Foundation and British Council.

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which ordinarily takes place at the Studio but this week will be in Watershed's W1&2 spaces just through the bar, look out for the signs!.

Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do.

After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm.

Let us know if you’d like a tour of the space and we'll be happy to show you around just before the talk. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk to book your place on a tour.
