It’s been a busy week in the Studio with two residency showcases to prepare for, new dates for Time Bank announced and a weekend of teaching in the Studio, read on to find out all about these delights and more...

On Friday night Watershed hosted a Tron evening and after party curated by the BFI Film Academy, with a pop-up games arcade co-curated by Bristol Games Hub. Studio residents Opposable Games created a Tron-inspired mini game which featured in the arcade and went down amazingly well, and the Café/Bar in Watershed was transformed into an Elec-TRON-ic neon haven. Take a look at the pictures on facebook here.

At the weekend Students from the new interdisciplinary UWE MA/MSc in Creative Media Technologies joined forces with Wildlife Filmmaking students this month to undertake a brand new Experience Design module taught in the Studio. Much of the teaching has been led by Studio residents and alumni including Rik Lander and Tomas Rawlings. You can find out more about the course here.

Two years ago theatre producers Stand + Stare Collective joined the Studio on a micro-residency to develop their project Theatre Jukebox. Since finishing their residency scheme, news of their Theatre Jukebox has spread far and fast and they enter 2013 with a line up of exciting commissions. You can find out more about their journey in a blog Nicola wrote ‘No Time to Stand + Stare for the Theatre Jukebox.’

After the success of Watersheds first Time Bank sessions, they’ve announced the next date: 8 May 2013.  Watershed are holding the sessions to support artists, filmmakers and cultural organisations who are exploring the use of digital technologies in their work. You can find out more and book a session here, or join us at the end of the day from 16:00 for an open discussion.

Tickets have just gone on sale for the CAS/CADE Conference 2013: Codes of Engagement, where UWE’s Digital Cultures Research Centre has curated a strand of work for the conference. Studio residents Tine Bech, Duncan Speakman, Laura Kriefman and David Glowacki are all speaking. They will be talking about their recent projects that use sensors to explore new forms of immersion. You can find out more and buy a ticket here.

On Thursday Clare headed to Manchester to speak about creative ecologies at Future Everything, the Summit of Ideas & Digital Invention. You can find out more about the festival on their website here, or have a read through tweets from the event by searching #futr. This week Clare’s also been having some secret talks about a magician...so watch this space!

With just a week to go until opening night, tickets are flying out for Give Me Back My Broken Night, a theatrical guided tour of the future of your city. Originally developed as part of Watershed's Theatre Sandbox Programme, the show returns to Bristol for its UK premiere following performances as part of the European City of Culture programme in Guimaraes, Portugal. Presented by FUEL, Uninvited Guests and Circumstance, the show is part of a series of Bristol Temple Quarter commissions. You can find out more and book your tickets on the Watershed website here.

Also as part of Bristol Temple Quarter commissions, Bristol Encounters 0117 Hour Digital Short Challenge is now open for submissions. The 0117 Hour Digital Short Challenge invites filmmakers, animators, visual and sound artists from across the land to make digital shorts in just 117 hours, focused on the theme of 'Journeys' and exploring Bristol Temple Quarter. Presented by Bristol Film Office, Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival and M Shed, the 0117 Hour Challenge is now on its third edition. Register online before Thursday 11 April to participate.

Helen our Communicating Science resident has been busy finalising her prototype for her residency showcase in April. She will be talking about her Solar Wind Chime and there will be a chance to see the prototype in action. We will then be joined by an expert panel with one of the founders of PocketSpacecraft.com, Michael Johnson, and Nano Physicist David Glowacki from danceroom Spectroscopy. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance. Contact Watershed box office on 0117 927 5100 or book tickets here.

Lastly a reminder that there is no Lunchtime Talk or Open Studio this week due to the bank holiday and Easter weekend. We will be back on the 5 April with a fantastic talk by Luke Egan who will be introducing his fantastic project Musii. Musii is a responsive inflatable musical instrument that you play by bending and shaping the cones to create sound and colour. You can find out more on our events page here.
