Pull My Daisy + What Happened To Kerouac?
classified 15Glassfest: Beats and Buddhism
Please note: This was screened in Nov 2014
A double bill of Beat rhymes, rhythms and riffs beginning with Pull My Daisy, the most iconic film of the Beat movement. Directed by Robert Frank and Albert Leslie and adapted from Jack Kerouac's play Beat Generation, this grungy short is a who's who from the New York Beat scene, featuring appearances from Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and painter Larry Rivers as they riff on straight society via an intoxicating mixture of swearing, poetry, jazz and booze.
Then come on a journey into the world of Jack Kerouac. As one of the poster boys for the free-spirited Beat generation, Kerouac and his writing have become a right of passage for generations around the world. Richard Lerner's 1986 lovingly assembled documentary gives us a rare insight into the personal history and creative process of the author of On The Road, with interviews from friends, family and the inspirational, irascible man himself.
