Time for Rights
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in July 2015
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
In this week's talk, Studio resident Tim Kindberg will explain the thinking and technology behind a new project called Time for Rights which aims to engage with young people around the world about human rights issues. The project is the first commission of 1215.today, an initiative led by the University of Lincoln (UK) from an Exceptional Award from Arts Council England, to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
Time for Rights is creating a global video event. At 12:15 on International Youth Day, 12 August 2015, young people will record and upload short videos to tell us about the human right they care most about. They’ll contribute knowing that others do so at exactly the same time, as an act of solidarity. The videos will be posted on Instagram. We will also draw upon them to create a powerful online video mosaic.
As part of the talk, Tim will also give a performance of Doing Time, a short play, written by Tim, for four voices out of four smartphones, which featured in the 12.15.today kick-off event at Lincoln Castle prison.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
