Desert Island Flicks - Carol Morley

Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival 2015

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Sept 2015

With the recent publication of her semi-autobiographical novel 7 Miles Out Carol Morley once again reveals why she is one of the most daring, honest and exciting talents to have emerged in the past decade in the UK. These qualities were evident to those who were startled and absorbed by her visual journey of self-discovery in the Alcohol Years (2000) and has been reinforced by her subsequent films: leading film critic Mark Kermode in his Observer review of her most recent film The Falling (2015) to state "she has joined the ranks of Britain’s best filmmakers." Her restless creative enquiry and experimentation are infectious and inspiring. In this special event Carol will talk about and show clips from films which have inspired her alongside clips from her own film work and will read from her novel 7 Miles Out.

The event will be followed by a book signing.

Please note that this event will be recorded.

Presented by Watershed as part of Onwards and Outwards, a UK-wide programme examining female representation in the film industry made possible with support from the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
