Afrika Eye Opening Party

Afrika Eye 2015

Event

Please note: This event took place in Nov 2015

Join us for the always lively Opening Party celebrating 10 years of Afrika Eye with live music from Amadou Diagne with his UK based band Group Yakar.

Multi-instrumentalist and singer Amadou Diagne and his band have been developing a style that is uniquely their own. A dynamic and creative exploration of the bands collective musical backgrounds and experiences unified through the songwriting and deep Senegalese roots of Amadou’s music. It is hard to define this music – inspired by everything from Afro beat to blues, Jazz funk to Mbalax, a rock sensibility woven through with West African style.

Amadou Diagne is a musician with his roots in the West African traditional music of Senegal. Born in Dakar into a large Griot family of percussionists and praise singers Amadou began to play at an early age, eventually becoming a full time member of Senegal’s national orchestra and a busy session musician in Dakar. Since moving to the UK, Amadou has been collaborating with musicians from many different backgrounds.

Also, don’t miss the debut performance of the specially formed Afrika Eye Community Choir – singing the 10th anniversary anthem composed by the choir’s leader, Jill Draper. Come and party!
