A Life Journey- The Impact of War on Women

A Life Journey - The Impact of War on Women

Event

Please note: This event took place in June 2016

This event is a mixture of short films and spoken word which explores the impact of war on women, aiming to bring awareness of trauma through traditional storytelling.

A Life Journey – the Impact of War on Women begins with an evocative and vivid account of what happens to Somalian women as mothers in Soft Heart, We don’t like Violence (spoken word) and Under the Shade of the Tree (short film). The story is picked up by Refugee Women of Bristol where New Arrival and Empty Seat on the Bus (short films) address current feelings of social isolation and exclusion. Guest speaker Alex Raikes (Director of SARI ) then places these issues in a wider context. The event is followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

A Life Journey was developed in partnership with Rissa Mohabir (Trauma Awareness Productions), Refugee Women of Bristol and a group of Somalian women. A Refugee Week event, wth thanks to Quartet Community Sports Relief Grant and Watershed.
