This fascinating portrait of the late transmale filmmaker, artist and gender activist Flo McGarrell is a stirring meditation on collaboration, longing and loss.

In Jacmel, on the southern coast of Haiti, trans-artist Flo McGarrell ran a regional art center to foster a home for an emerging queer movement that had unique and lasting impact on the local community. Thriving there until his tragic death in the earthquake of 2010, his artistic partner and close friend Cary Cronenwett’s film stands testament to Flo’s creative spirit and his life. Using clips from past collaborations (including clips from a film Cary and Flo were developing based on the novel Kathy Goes To Haiti, by Kathy Acker) and interviews with the queer Haitians McGarrell mentored at the arts center, Cronenwett imbues this fascinating documentary with lush imagery and a collage of voices of such startlingly emotional interiority as to construct a kind of precious queer reverie for a lost artist, activist, and friend.

Beautiful and tragic, the positive and expansive impact McGarrell had on the lives of all who knew him, as well as his creative spirit continues to live on.
