A free event over three days including some Conversations about Cinema sessions hosted by the team behind Cinema Rediscovered.

When Mark Cousins set out to tell The Story of Film his task seemed quite straight forward: to follow the ideas that drive cinema, and to trace how they have travelled across the globe. The Odyssey that followed took Cousin’s over five years to make, managing to encompass over 600 films, covering six continents, and stretching to fifteen chapters over fifteen hours.

Initially broadcast as a TV series, the complete programme was screened in its entirety at the Toronto Film Festival, as well as at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Approaching film history from a completely new angle, The Story of Film manages to be all encompassing without over generalising, intelligent and accessible, and quietly yet historically radical. For the viewer the experience is like being washed in the unbridled energy and enthusiasm Cousins holds for the moving image, an education and celebration delivered in the form of an absurdly long love letter.

Revisiting this series almost five years after it was first broadcast, Cinema Rediscovered gives you the chance to drop in and out of this brilliant visual essay over the course of the weekend. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to talk cinema, including some informal Conversations about Cinema sessions hosted by the team behind Cinema Rediscovered.
