Shot in gorgeous black and white, this pitch black comedy thriller focuses on Mousa (Sami Metwasi), a bumbling car thief who’s in the wrong place at the wrong time – or more specifically who steals the wrong car on the wrong day.

Mousa wants to get out of the Palestinian slums, so steals a VW expecting a big payoff – but there’s a surprise in the trunk, which lands him stuck between Palestinian militants and Israeli intelligence with a deadly dilemma. Throw in an enraged father, an estranged daughter and an affair with a married woman and he’s got himself in quite a pickle – can he find redemption?

"Beautifully filmed in black and white in a knowing retro style flashing on the Fifties and Sixties, with a bit of French New Wave thrown in… there is an original voice here…” Jay Weissberg, Variety

Followed by a Skype Q&A with director Muayad Alayan.

Screening with short film Ave Maria (Dir: Basil Khalil / '15 / 15mins / Palestine)

Nuns of the Sisters of Mercy convent in the middle of the West Bank wilderness have their daily routine of silence and prayer disrupted when a family of religious Israeli settlers crash their car into the convent's wall.
