Screenwriters Group

BFI Film Academy South West have teamed up with ArtfulScribe to run our new Screenwriters Group for young aspiring South West based writers looking to develop a five-minute short script idea.

The 6-part evening course takes place monthly online. The course is delivered by Antosh Wojcik on behalf of ArtfulScribe and commences October 2021. We will ask you to provide a short synopsis or outline of your 5-minute short script idea that you would like to develop in the writers group sessions.

The group is for 16–25 year-olds with a range in writing skills; the course will be accessible for both the beginner writer and those with a small amount of experience that are looking to connect and create. Some of the sessions will also feature guest writers or industry professionals who will talk about their work.

Participants will explore creative writing through workshops on topics like characterisation, dialogue, setting, and plot. You will meet other writers/filmmakers, develop your idea into a script and receive valuable feedback.

These sessions are free, but we are looking for commitment. You will need to work on your script in between sessions. You can apply to take part below.

We are keen to hear your script ideas that provide authentic perspectives; giving a voice to new talent, particularly those who are underrepresented in the screen industries.

• Applications open: Thursday 2nd September 2021

• Successful applicants notified: Friday 8^th October 2021
• 1^st Session: Wednesday 20^th October 2021 (then every 3^rd Wednesday of the month moving forward)
• 2^nd Session: Wednesday 17^th November 2021
• 3^rd Session: Wednesday 15^th December 2021
• 4^th Session: Wednesday 19^th January 2022
• 5^th Session: Wednesday 16^th February 2022
• 6^th Session: Wednesday 16^th March 2022
