Please note: This event took place in Jan 2017

Join us at Jacobs Wells Baths for a remarkable showcase with Watershed’s current artist in residence Edson Burton. This event will feature a work-in-progress excerpt of The Last Blues Song of a Lost Afronaut, an immersive performance, imagining a different reality. There’ll be a chance to be in conversation with Edson, exploring the thinking behind the work and where he hopes to take it next.

The Last Blues Song of a Lost Afronaut - where the discovery of an archaic device on a lifeless planet leads an Afronaut explorer to question the origins of civilization - is an idea that Edson first imagined in 2013. Becoming artist in residence at Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio has provided the opportunity to begin turning his idea into a reality. Through his short residency, Edson has begun to explore the shape of the project and ways in which technology may support the storytelling. He now sees the experience as exploring decolonised identities, mythologies, cultural syncretism, ghosts, exodus and environmental collapse.

For this event, Edson has boldly created a live trailer (similar to a film trailer) in a very short space of time, to test out his evolving ideas with a live audience.

We'd be delighted if you can join us to experience and discuss Edson’s work, at this important moment in his artistic development. Discover more about the project and read Edson’s project blogs.
