Summer Animated Adventures

Summer Animated Adventures

Season

Please note : this season finished in Sept 2015

Want to see something different this summer holiday? Here at Watershed we’ve got six specially selected animated films from around the globe that will delight and entertain you in fresh ways.

Travel to Japan, Ireland, imaginary kingdoms in the clouds, and back again with these gorgeously creative and super-unique animations that all have exploration at their heart.

So go on, say move over multiplex and see-ya-later to YouTube, and instead enjoy this season of vibrant cinematic stories. After all, what would summer be without a little adventure?

We begin our voyage in July in the Emerald Isle, with two Oscar®-nominated hand-drawn films that both tip a hat to Celtic mythology. There's The Secret of Kells about a young novice monk who must save a precious manuscript, and Song of the Sea, an enchanting tale that sees six year old Saoirse learn the secrets of the ancient Irish legend of the selkies - magical beings who live as seals in the water and as humans on land.

Closer to home, local hero Shaun The Sheep (who will be enjoying his own ewe-nique arts trails across Bristol this summer) will be back for another week of his debut feature. Why not pop in to see the film as part of your Shaun The Sheep treasure hunt?

In August we’re hopping on our broomsticks to Japan for not one but three lesser-known (but equally magical!) Studio Ghibli classics. A witch in training goes off to live on her own for a year in Kiki’s Delivery Service, a nature-loving princess attempts to save the forests in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and a plucky orphan hunts for a legendary flying city in airborne adventure Castle in the Sky.

Back here on earth we want to hear what other adventures you’ve been on this summer! Share them on our noticeboard on the stairs or on our Twitter or Facebook pages. Photos, drawings, thoughts or poems – however you want to express yourself just let us know!

Ticket prices: £6.50 full / £4.50 concessions. Aged 24 or under? You can see any screening any time for £4.50.

Special offer: Book online and we will send you a discount code for 25% off the other films in the season so you can continue your adventures!
