Projects 2010 > Give Me Back My Broken Night > Journal
so this is the first post documenting our development. We’re actually not starting on this until the 27th of July so we’ll be able to tell you more then! but for now it might be good to just recap where we’re at and the things we’re planning.
sandbox intro workshop -
was really good to have a day throwing ideas around with everyone, in many ways I found in more rewarding to discuss other peoples projects than our own! The best outcome for us I think was shifting from the idea of a tactile physical electronic screen to the use of a mobile projector and a piece of paper! Something really great about the aesthetic of the glowing lines appearing on real paper.
I’ve seen this project presented at TED

They have a funky gestural interface too (which we probably won’t have, but the system seems to be the same approach we’re going for.
It also seems that the ‘collaborative map’ is definitely do-able. There’s this system for the iphone http://www.netsketchapp.com/ and Dan helpfully found this one as well. . .
http://mrdoob.com/ (only works in latest version of safari and firefox 4 though).
So technically it looks like there’s s solid grounding for what we want to achieve. I’ve tapped up a PR company that works for Nokia to see if we can get some free fancy phones off them for building the app with, fingers crossed ![]()
Personally I like this approach as i find it good to get a working system up early so we can then develop content while using it rather then dreaming conceptually for ages and then finding out it doesn’t ‘feel’ the way we expected it to.
In terms of our piece the next stage for us is really talking to people who can give us insights into the area around Soho but also people who are involved in urban planning. Jess has contacted a few people that Nina suggested to us so hopefully we’ll be able to talk to them when we start in a week or so.
