19-25 Devon Film Fund

We’ve teamed up with Exeter Phoenix again this year to provide one Devon-based young filmmaker with £1000 in cash funding alongside support to produce their idea for a short film. The film can be up to 12 minutes long and be in any genre or style.

How to apply

Please make sure you’ve read the 19-25 Devon Film Fund Guidelines before applying and then head over to the online submission form to apply.

As well as telling us a bit about yourself, you’ll need to provide an original proposal for the short and outline elements of it including the tone, themes, genre and strategy. You can present this in written form (max. 400 words) or as a video (max. 3 minutes).

There’s also space to include links to your showreel or to submit any other supporting materials (like previous work, stills, writing samples etc.) that would help you communicate your idea and style.

You will also be asked to complete a Diversity Standards form when applying. All the data on here will be kept anonymous and will be used for reporting purposes. It won’t impact your application.

Once applications have closed, four applicants will be shortlisted and be invited to Two Short Nights Film Festival, where they’ll pitch themselves and their ideas to a panel of industry professionals and a live audience. The successful applicant will then be selected after the festival.

If you would like support or assistance with your application, or would like these guidelines in a more accessible format, or you would like support with your application we would be pleased to help. Please request this by emailing Claire.Horrocks@exeterphoenix.org.uk.

Who can apply

The fund is aimed at those who have a passion for making short films or those looking for funding to take their filmmaking to the next level. There are no requirements around previous work or qualifications. To apply you just need to be:

  • Living in a permanent address in Devon. Applicants will need to be able to prove their address
  • Aged between 19-25. You must be 19 or over when applying. We’ll accept applications from those who will be turning 26 over the project timelines (see below)

If selected, you may be expected to make occasional visits to Exeter, so please consider this when applying. We want to ensure that we can support and hear from emerging filmmakers from as diverse a range of backgrounds as possible. If you have any questions or would like us to provide additional information to support you when applying, please get in touch.
