She's a Boy I Knew
screening on:
Sat 26 Jul
At 23, Steven made the difficult decision to come out about his female gender identity to his wife and family and live as Gwen. Frustrated with transgender invisibility and stereotypes, Gwen bravely documents her transition and its effects on everyone around her in a collage of archival family footage, animation and painfully honest interviews. At turns funny, painful and awkward, this is a rare documentary that embraces video as both a narrative art form and an activist tool.
