Migrations: The Kingdom of Zydeco
screening on:
Thu 16 Jul
We follow last month’s screening of acclaimed music documentarian Mugge’s survey of the musical landscape in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans with this related portrait of the Zydeco culture which has its roots in both African and Celtic music. In the bayous of Southwestern Louisiana, the hooting accordians and clattering percussion rule the dance floors, and Mugge builds the film around a battle between the more traditional Mr. Chavis and the younger and more experimental Beau Jocque to be hailed as the king of this Cajun custom.
