Low Budget/High Impact: Once
screening on:
Sun 14 Feb
This tender, romantic musical is set on the streets of Dublin where a careworn busker (Glenn Hansard, lead singer of Irish band The Frames) strikes up a friendship with a young Czech migrant and single mother (Marketa Irglová). A subtle, tentative romance ensues as they begin to play music together and come to terms with their past loves. This is a lo-fi, exquisitely tender visual album of a film that effortlessly weaves the gorgeous self-penned songs (the pair won an Oscar®) into the narrative. Completely original, charmingly innocent and effortlessly performed.
