Choosing to use GPS is a blessing, and also a curse.
It gives us guidelines to make decisions. However, it also gives us restrictions.

This is the beautiful courtyard that we would really love to use for the game. However, we could not get a stable GPS fix since it is surrounded by concrete buildings. Therefore we had very swiftly made our decision to change our location to the car park outside Contact Theatre. I did drop a tear or two (in my heart) when I learnt that we have to give this courtyard up. Jo of contact is really helpful, she acted promptly to try to get the permission to use the car park, so that saves us from climbing onto any cars to get to the right point. Fingers crossed for getting the approval.

The meeting with Baba, Kate, Jo and team members (8th Sept) was really useful and they have been very supportive. We sorted out the logistics and marketing etc.
Check out the cryptic drawing of Jo.

The testing now feels more like a preview of the final game. It almost feels like a performance.

GPS jitters, and different ipaqs may pick up the signal at difficult times. That causes us another problem. If players get an ipaq each in the same team, they hear the instruction at a different time. That will compromise some of our designs, which we would want the players to do certain things together. We though of experimenting with iTrip®. So that we can give each team 1 ipaq, and a headphone each, so they hear the same sound at the same time though the trasmitter attached on the ipaq. On The intelligence from Ed tells us that iTrip® is actually crap. Dave had looked into Silent Disco kit after coming back from Bristol last week. However, it is just not portable and it wouldn’t be suitable.
It sounds we have gone down a dead end. Dave came up with a brilliant idea which we can incorporate this low tech solution as part of the game:
*SPOILER*
Put the players in a hula hoop! Each of them still gets a headphone, and the wires are connected to the ipaq. The hula hoop is their ship, and it restricts their movement physically. It prevents them from entangling the spider web of headphone wires.
*SPOILER ENDS*

No delay on asset recording. Jez and Dave arr working away in the AV studio.

No moles have been harmed in the process, but we have broken some wood.

(For some reasons the photos are turned side ways… apologies)

We are doing a pre-test test tomorrow on site. Hope it goes well.
