Watershed's UK tour of Kenyan films opens tonight

Following sold out screenings at Afrika Eye Festival last November, we are delighted to confirm that two new Kenyan films - Nairobi Half Life and Something Necessary - are now playing at cinemas and festivals across the UK as part of New Visions from Kenya: Celebrating 50 years of Independence. Audience reaction here at Watershed has been outstanding for both films.

Welcome to Recife: The Playable City

Participants will spend the next 10 days developing ideas here at Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio, before heading to Brazil in April to finalise their prototypes.

Last Autumn, Watershed and National Theatre Wales supported 12 brilliant creative Digital Producers through Wales’ very first Digital Producers Lab, a development programme to foster digital talent and catalyse production of creative technology projects in Wales. We are delighted to announce that we have just released a short film following the Digital Producers Lab that ran at Watershed between Sept - Nov 2013.

The Harbourside Christmas Market

Shoppers can head to the harbour this Christmas for a vibrant, locally focused alternative to the high street. With a host of amazing artisan stalls and a gift wrapping station, as well as local artists (including works from Upfest Gallery), performers and gourmet chefs, the market promises to be a one-stop shop for all things Christmassy. There will even be a pop-up bar courtesy of Harbourside No.1, serving delicious hot cocktails, mulled wine and merry ales.

Three Watershed-supported projects were announced as winners of the 2013 Media Innovation Awards last week at a glittering event held in Plymouth. Hosted by one of Channel 4’s Three Hungry Boys, Thom Hunt, the event is a joint initiative by the media and design networks in the South West. Now in their seventh year, the awards celebrate the most innovative work produced by creative companies.

Magic making at Watershed

For the past two months we have had the great pleasure of hosting two magicians in residence, Stuart Nolan and Kieron Kirkland. Based at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio, they have been exploring creative ideas that blend technology, interactive design, magic and illusion. Kieron and Stuart here share some of the ideas that they have been developing in collaboration with the Bristol Interaction and Graphics Group at the University of Bristol.

Joan of Arc’s South West homecoming

The Passion of Joan of Arc enjoys a glorious South West homecoming on Mon 25 Nov with a performance in Bath Abbey, one of the country’s great medieval buildings, as part of the Bath Film Festival.Developed in Bristol by musicians Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) working with inspiration from Watershed, The Passion of Joan of Arc is a live performance to Carl Theodore Dreyer’s 1928 classic of silent cinema.
