Titicut Follies is a stark and graphic portrayal of the conditions that existed at the State Prison for the so-called "Criminally Insane" at Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Frederick Wiseman's landmark debut film unflinchingly documents the various ways the inmates are treated (and mistreated) by the guards, social workers and psychiatrists.

At times harrowing to watch, the film was prohibited from general distribution in the USA for almost 25 years.
