Cornwall-based Lucy Mainstone successfully led and delivered the short film Bare Roots, written and directed by Ellen McDougall and starring Charlotte Ritchie and Linda Bassett. Lucy’s first substantial scripted project is now doing well on the festival circuit having screened at Encounters, Aesthetica, Women X, Sea Change and beyond. Find out from her what the challenges and triumphs were, and what to expect as a producer when you receive public funding from BFI NETWORK.

The BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund is due to re-open in February 2026.
