In recent months a number of fantastic individuals and organisations have joined the Pervasive Media Studio community so here is a short introduction to some of our new residents.

Visual artist Tine Bech has joined us as a PhD student with the DCRC. Her research/practice explores how we engage with our immediate environment; her practice-based dissertation is concerned with how artistic application of technologies and play can be used to create interactive installations that provide meaningful art experiences.

The five-strong team behind start-up Calvium previously worked on sensor-based mobile application tools and experiences at Hewlett-Packard Research Labs. Currently, Calvium are working with iShed on a TSB-funded project to create a set of tools that allow creative but not necessarily technical people to create rich media experiences for mobile devices.

Katie Day joined iShed in December 2009 as an Associate Producer to run the Theatre Sandbox programme. Katie is also the Artistic Director of The Other Way Works, a theatre company based in Birmingham.

Seth Jackson is a specialist in the use of mobile as a music distribution and fan interaction tool. He is currently working as Head of Mobile Services and developing the global mobile music strategy for the [PIAS] Entertainment Group, the largest Independent label and distributor in Europe. His company Indie Mobile was part of Media Sandbox 2009.

Tim Kindberg's research interests are in applying ubiquitous and mobile computing technologies to digital media, particularly in urban settings. He is the founder of start-up Matter 2 Media and a visiting professor of Computer Science at the University of Bath. Before that he was a senior researcher at HP Labs in Palo Alto and Bristol.
