After the great success of ‘as if it were the last time’, Duncan Speakman applies his subtlemob concept to a new piece exploring suspicion, collusion and tipping points in contemporary social environments. ‘our broken voice’ will again centre on a cinematic experience in a public space, this time focusing on a single event exploding into many fragments and strands. The audience will step into one of those strands trying to piece together the event with the help of strangers following different routes through what happened. This subtlemob is darker than its gentle and scenic predecessor ‘as if it were the lat time’. Here, something bad has happened . . . You can hear fleeting glimpses of the aftermath as you make your way through broken shards of the preceding moments, trying to find out how people around you fit into the story, your own role and somewhere to point the finger.

‘our broken voice’ premieres as part of InBetween Time Festival, which takes place in Bristol from 1 Dec to 6 February.
