Whilst we were in Tokyo we were taken to the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival held at The National Art Center, Tokyo, an extraordinary building.

The exhibition included approximately 170 works of art, animations, films, games, website, manga, selected from over 2,645 submissions. The exhibition was incredible busy (they had over 10,000 visitors in the day before we visited). But despite the crowds we managed to catch some highlights:

Tenth Sentiment by Ryota Kuwakubo

A model train equipped with a tint LED slowly navigates through various household objects which are lined up on the floor, projecting their shadows. Extraordinarily beautiful. See images and read more at ICC online and Lucy Macintosh Gallery, which also has a video of the piece.

echochrome ii by SUZUTA Ken / FUJIKI Jun / SUZUKI Tatsuya

An action puzzle game based on PlayStation Move and inspired by the theme of light and shadows. Using the PlayStation Move motion controller as a flashlight, players can freely control the shadows projected on the game screen and employ their imagination to change the shape of silhouettes, discover various traps and shadow art objects, and lead the characters over the shadows.
