While we often consider embodied technologies as seamless, what affordances are opened when we look explicitly at the seams of immersion? This lunchtime talk explores the inherent liminality of XR and how a seamed creative approach can offer an important lens for communicating disability as an altered or expanded form of embodiment.
Ben Joseph Andrews is a disabled new media artist and researcher from Wathaurong land in Australia. Often in collaboration with Emma Roberts, his practice seeks to use emerging technologies to expand perceptions, reawaken curiosity and instill a sense of wonder to the world we inhabit. His work includes Starless (2017), Gondwana (2022) and, most recently, Turbulence: Jamais Vu, which won the Interactive Competition for Non-Fiction award at IDFA (2023).
Join us online on YouTube Live, or in the building on Friday 24th May 2024 at 1pm for the talk and to take part in the Q and A discussion afterwards.
The Pervasive Media Studio is a partnership between the Watershed, University of the West of England and University of Bristol.
