Its 4 weeks before the hand in and the project is on course. Digital Seeds has evolved into a project, which acts as a unique delivery system for sending people customizable content parcels. Although I cant say more…

The final project has been born out of my research into, how to improve our connection with the media we love. The key point of which was that the medium itself was the real issue which needed to be questioned.

My research into Marshal McLuhan taught me the value of different mediums. McLuhan classifies a medium in terms of ‘hot’ and ‘cold’. A hot medium is something that leaves you well filled with data, like a film. Whilst a cool medium like a book is higher in audience participation and less of a sensory overload.

What is interesting is that a cool medium is arguably better at improving our connection with content than a hot medium. If you have read a book and then also watched the film made from that book, in most cases people prefer the depth and connection they felt with the book.

This led me to the unique selling point of my final idea. In that slowing down the release of content in an already cool medium like a desktop widget, in theory, should provide the necessary reflective space to invoke a more connected relationship.

This project has been lots of fun to make, although I fear I have got too wrapped up in its execution over the last few months, forgetting the big picture. However, I now feel back on track thinking about both the macro and micro having shared the project and its development of the concept at my lunch time talk here at the studio last Friday. The input I got from the discussion after my talk offered great insight and feedback. Opening up the development process to an audience of skilled and creative people at the studio has generated better ideas.
