Studio members Vanessa Bellaar Spruijt and Helen Bentley were commissioned by The National Trust to produce its presence at Glastonbury 2010. Part of the brief was to create awareness about the areas of beautiful countryside that the Trust manages and to create an experience that would evoke feelings similar to those when you are enjoying the outdoors.

The result was The Outside Inn, a beautifully created space, which gave festival visitors a chance to escape the crowds and thumping bass and sit back, relax and enjoy the great outdoors in a digital setting. Soft pebbles and meadow grass cushioned visitors as they lay back with soundscapes (by Andrew Binnie); sensory boxes invited them to take a deep breath of meadow air; the user-generated bar area drew people in to unwind and a huge tree installation let their minds wander.

Vanessa and Helen worked with carpenters, illustrators, seamstresses and a light designer to get the physical and technological aspects of the project spot on. (For a list of the collaborators, click here). Sir Peter Blake, who created the popular butterfly bodywork for the Inn's visitors, was particularly impressed with their integration of recycled elements.
