Media Sandbox 2010 has just awarded seven commissions to companies from the South West to research ground-breaking ideas in open data and pervasive media. The projects include a mobile game promoting environmental awareness; a website to help wheelchair users find accessible routes through the city; a new musical instrument and a way of controlling computer games through brainwaves and sound.

To find a full list of the brilliant projects supported through the scheme, go to www.mediasandbox.co.uk where you can also follow the participants' project journals.

There will be several opportunities to join the conversation over the next few months, including a number of open work in progress events and a major showcase in February 2011. Most of these events will take place here at the Pervasive Media Studio and provide a chance to find out more about the projects and take part in some interesting discussions around the opportunities and challenges the participants face.

Upcoming events:

29 September 2010, 2pm: Concepts, designs and inspirations

27 October 2010, 2pm: Technical challenges

17 November 2010, 2pm: TBC
