FutureEverything, a festival of art, music and ideas, is taking place in Manchester between the 11-14 May. This year, many Studio residents have been invited to contribute to the exciting 2011 programme.

Duncan Speakman and Émilie Grenier will speak about We Are Forests, a sound work using mobile technologies to create a shared yet intimate connection between strangers in physical spaces. The project was developed through a cross-european residency including supported time at the Studio, Nimk (Netherlands Art Media Institute), 5daysoff and KIBU (Kitchen Budapest).

Creative Technology Research Associate Dan Williams will participate in a Hacking Culture panel exploring the relationships between culture and data and the ways in which accessibility to information can open up new collaborative opportunities. The panel will also feature Rachel Coldicutt, who is participating in our Development Programme for Creative Producers.

An iShed showcase featuring many of the projects developed as part of Media Sandbox 2011 will also appear at the festival. Participants include Darius Pocha of Moksha exhibiting his scent sculptures, Alex Ryley of Mutant Labs presenting one of their sound-controlled games and nu desine’s Adam Place running a music hacking workshop, and presenting their new musical instrument AlphaSphere.

In addition, there will be a panel featuring our B-Open Media Sandbox projects, which were conceived with support from Bristol City Council. This strand was part of an initiative to open up council data, make it accessible to the public and to support Bristol's way to becoming a smart, green and digital city.
