Spaces are filling up very quickly for the REACT Ideas Labs ahead of the Future Documentary Sandbox. The documentary form invites us to connect, to belong, and to learn. It is steeped in a history of artists, filmmakers and producers inventing new ways of sharing stories. Future Documentary Sandbox will ask how can we hold on to what is great about documentary - its ability to elicit empathy, impart wisdom and inspire change - whilst exploring the new forms that are enabled by the internet, mobile phones and changing audience behaviours. The process of application involves participation in one of the three half-day workshops, so make sure you reserve yourself a ticket soon if you would like to be involved.
Opposable Games have been preparing to show their fantastic game Clockwork Racers at GameCityNights at the Arnolfini. In partnership with Edge and sponsored by Maxis’ SimCity, GameCity is touring the country to try and help create and support communities interested in the cultural and creative, all in celebration of the best the videogame industry has to offer. Excitingly Clockwork Racers was also featured as ‘New and Noteworthy’ on the Apple Store this week, download the game here.
nu desine have just returned from California and the NAMM show 2013. The NAMM Show is the world's premier music products trade show, where manufacturers from around the globe come to unveil the latest new gear and products. NAMM will wrap up a world circuit of trade shows for nu desine and the AlphaSphere. They have been blogging throughout their trip on the AlphaSphere site, posting updates and their highlights of the show, so have a read on their news page.
Last Wednesday and Thursday Will Luton was in London for Mobile Games Forum 2013, one of the biggest mobile gaming events in the calendar. He chaired the social games and Social Games & Virtual Goods Forum, which hosted a variety of speakers throughout the weekend – you can find out more here.
Charlotte Crofts' academic poster, entitled City Strata: Locative Experience Design and Large-Scale Heritage Apps won a prize at MeCCSA 2013, the annual conference of the Media Communications and Cultural Studies Association. The conference was hosted by the University of Ulster, Derry on the theme of 'Spaces and Places of Culture' to coincide with Derry's status as UK Capital of Culture this year.
Last Friday the Studio hosted farewell drinks for Helen Kennedy who is moving to Brighton University to take up an Associate Dean position. With Helen’s departure the DCRC are looking to appoint a Director at Associate Professor level. The DCRC Director is responsible for the vision, leadership, promotion and budget of the Centre. They are looking for an applicant who has an excellent record of research in a related field, and the skills to lead a talented and ambitious team.
