Dan our lovely creative technologist has been documenting some of the projects he has worked on throughout his time at Watershed on Watershed’s new ICT blog Wired Watershed. You can find out about projects such as Heidi Hinder’s Money No Object; exploring handshakes, hugs and high fives for making NFC payments, instead of tapping a credit card and Helen White’s Solar-wind Chime: Listening to the sun using spacecraft, electromagnets and x-OSC. Find out more on the blog here.
As Dan is heading off on new adventures later this month we are now advertising for a new brilliant Creative Technologist to join our midsts. Watershed’s Creative Technologist works on a constant and wide-ranging stream of projects: from remote controlling pico projectors to international sprints, tracking balloons across London to a storytelling jukebox, and combining magicians and technology to tweeting dead people. This role requires the ability to understand and inspire, listen and communicate and then make brilliant ideas happen. You can find details of how to apply here - the deadline is 5pm on Mon 7 Oct 2013.
Ben Gwalchmai has blogged about his REACT Books and Print funded project Book Kernel for the Literary Platform. Book Kernel allows audiences to curate and print a personal memento of a live event, incorporating selected content, social media interaction and contextual information. You can read the full article here. They also published the event book they made for Guardian Activate on their BETA site so take a look here.
Paul Archer has made it into the new Guinness book of records for the longest cab ride in history! Paul will be speaking about his ‘It’s on the Meter‘ expedition – a trip where three friends tried to drive to Sydney in a London Black Cab in February 2011 at TEDxBristol this year. This year’s TEDxBristol is centred around the theme of ‘Failure,’ and local speakers will share their tales of all manner of failures, and how failure has shaped their ideas, outlooks and businesses. It’s set to be a really interesting conference so get your tickets from their website.
Hazel has been busy planning for Knowle West Media Centre’s Makers Fair. Make It! Festival at KWMC on Saturday 21 September between 10-4 has all the great stuff of a maker fair and more - 3D printing, electronic toy hacking, DIY motorbikes, bread making, DIY handbags and a DIY cider press. It’s open to children and adults so pop along if you are free and have a look – you can find out more here.
Clare has been busy finalising plans for September’s This Happened with residents Tom Burton and Tom Mitchell. This Happened is a series of events focusing on the stories behind interaction design. As always, the event will bring together great speakers focusing on the stories behind interaction design. They have three fantastic speakers lined up already. Dan Efergan, Creative Director of Digital at Aardman Animations will talk about Aadrman, Fallon and The Tate’s project to inspire the nation's kids into helping them create a short animated film; Tate Movie Project. Dan will be joined by Lizzie Ostrom, aka Odette De Toilette, who has a passion for all things perfume. Her mission is to create wonderful experiences around fragrance and the sense of smell. For This Happened Bristol she will share a recent piece of work translating between art and fragrance, with a bit of interactive, nose-based fun. They are joined by John Durrant, filmmaker and creative director at Bristol-based design agency BDH, directed Jan Liskiecki: From Every Angle - a one-off, live, an experimental exploration, capture using multiple remote and Kinect cameras and streaming for the 2013 Bristol Proms at the Old Vic & Watershed and broadcast for C4 / More4′s Piano Night. This Happened will take place on Thursday, 26 September at the Empire Theatre. Tickets are just £5 and can be booked on eventbrite.
