Ralph Hoyte (poet), Marc Yeats (composer) & Phill Phelps (coder) have now been working on their Frome Maidens project since February. The Frome Maidens is a GPS-triggered music/poetryscape laid out along the course of the River Frome, from her source near Old Sodbury to her conjunction with the Avon (outside the Watershed in Bristol). It is funded by a minor grant of £4898 from the Arts Council. The Frome Maidens is a scoping study to test design and implementation parameters for new word/music fusions using context-aware media. We also have a UWE MA Media Practice & Culture student, Dan Frodsham, doing project work with us.
This coming Wednesday 19th May we are trialling the scratchscapes on three different sites along the length of the Frome: at Riverside Park (bottom of M32); at the source of the Frome (nr Old Sodbury in Dodington Park); and at Jubilee Park in Chipping Sodbury. MA guineapigs will be in on this, as will, hopefully, the actual Frome Maidens. We would like to invite anyone else interested to come along and tell us what they think, and hopefully enjoy the experience.
Meet-up: 10.00 at the Pervasive Media Studio. If you only want to do Riverside Park then you can easily walk back into town afterwards from there. Otherwise you are welcome to join us for most of the day. Picnic, iPaq & transport provided. Sun not guaranteed, sorry.
Dan's blog at http://mpc2-dan.blogspot.com/p/frome-mediascape-testing.html has a lot of pictures and information
