Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in Virtual Reality (VR). The applicant will have a strong methodological background with an interest in developing studies exploring VR and immersion as offering new ways of “witnessing the real.” This will involve exploring concepts such as: immersion; spatiality; embodiment; affect and agency.

This is an exciting opportunity within a larger collaborative team. ‘Virtual Realities – Immersive Documentary Encounters’ is a two and a half year EPSRC research project, a collaboration between the Universities of Bristol, Bath and UWE Bristol. The overarching research question is ‘How might the affordances of Virtual Reality for immersion and interaction take forward documentary's mission for storytelling about our shared world?’ This multi-disciplinary research project, which is also in collaboration with industry partners including BBC R&D, the Guardian and Aardman Animation, combines audience study, production study and experimental study. The post is aimed at a researcher with a strong quantitative background who is also open to a mixed methods approach.

This is a full time, fixed term post with an expected expiry date of 31st December 2019.

The applicant will have a PhD in Psychology or Cognitive Science. Some experience with technology, in particular, virtual environments would be an advantage.
