Deaf Conversations About Cinema: Barbie
Please note: This event took place in July 2023
Join us at the 17:50 screening of Barbie on Mon 24 July which will feature Descriptive Subtitles and an introduction from Stef Graham, Watershed's Communications Co-ordinator. This will be followed at 20:00 by a post screening discussion in the Café & Bar with audience members and Stef. The evening will be hosted by Deaf artist, performer and filmmaker David Ellington and will feature BSL interpretation throughout.
Brand new and fresh out of the box comes the most perfect film about the most perfect doll in the world! To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.
Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as one of the many Barbies and Kens, and directed by the ever brilliant Greta Gerwig this is a campy, technicolour homage to the titular Barbara Millicent Roberts (yes, that is her full name!), which begs to be seen on the big screen.
Please join us after the screening and Q&A in the Café/Bar for an informal discussion after the screening, which will include BSL interpretation. You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass and let us know your thoughts about Barbie.
