After a very wet and windy start to the week things are heating up in Bristol and the Studio. It’s been Hannah's first week as the new Studio Assistant and she's really looking forward to getting involved in some of the amazing things that are going on. Today in the Studio we’ve been joined by Cory who’s been on work experience at Watershed. He’s been busy meeting all the residents and helped out with this blog.

The REACT team hosted the second of their Books & Print ideas lab on Tuesday at Watershed. The labs are a chance to explore the Books & Print theme for the latest Sandbox call. The room was filled with a mixture of academics and creative economy partners and the lab was a chance to build relationships, and share ideas and knowledge. There’s only one ideas lab session left now in Cardiff next week so if it sounds like something you’d like to be a part of you can find more information here.

Vanessa Bellaar Spruijt is off to Portugal next Tuesday to prepare for a range of workshops and events around Open City thinking. First up is the Smart City Workshop which will help to develop scenes and ideas for a new short film by Geoff Taylor and Sam Kinsley commissioned to parody technology company’s corporate videos, and instead depict how technology might be used by real people in future Guimaraes. Our own Clare Reddington is facilitating this on Saturday the 14th of July. Secondly James Bridle is arriving and doing an aerial balloon mapping workshop which promises to be a spectacle indeed. Follow us on Facebook and help spread the word.

Tomorrow Verity, Victoria and Jo are running a game in Cardiff as part of the playARK festival. Find out more here. And on Saturday night the Bristol Cycle Festival launches at the Attic Bar on Stokes Croft. Matt Davenport will be djing for the first time in Bristol, and you can see Grace’s new band EXPENSIVE, so you’ve got no excuse to stay in.
