Studio residents Opposable Games have released their debut game, Clockwork Racers. It is a celebration of the best top-down racing games that children will love and adults remember fondly.  From the chalkboards of the classroom to picnic rugs and lab benches, players compete to be the fastest around the miniature world of clockwork toys – either in time trials against friends via Game Center, in single player mode against the AI racers, or facing off against friends and family in the unique multi-screen, multiplayer mode.

Connecting via Bluetooth, Wifi and Airplay, up to four players can connect to the game with their own handsets to control the console style racing on a single shared screen, challenging one another around the track and competing in fastest-finger mini-challenges.

Opposable Games co-founder Ben Trewhella said: “The game gives families and friends the opportunity to play together, bringing competitive and fun social games back into a shared space. With Clockwork Racers we hope to show what’s possible right now on connected mobile devices.”

The core game is free, offering players all four colourful characters, four tracks and one grand-prix challenge. Players can enjoy an additional eight tracks and eight grand prix options, or unlock Christmas costumes and a special festive themed bonus track pack.

The game was given its public premiere at the ExPlay ’12 festival and was described by Hookshot’s Keith Stuart as “a really beautiful top-down racer, in the style of Codemasters classic Micro Machines”.

We can't wait to play each other in the Studio at our festive do this Friday and I for one will be challenging the in-laws to a table top show down over Christmas!
