Musician and artist Onallee (of Roni Size Reprazent and many other things) presents her first solo show FUTURISM 3.O at Colston Hall on 18 February.

Envisaged as a reimagining of a traditional live music performance, it will incorporate live drones, 3D graphics and spatial audio to create an immersive environment propelled by a futuristic narrative that explores themes of politics and power.

In her Lunchtime Talk she talked us through the process of research and development so far, and what might come next.

Here are 5 headlines:

- After 20 years of a successful career making and presenting records, Onallee had a brainwave 'what if I don't keep on doing the same thing?'. That simple question has taken her on a journey of discovery.

- Onallee is looking to create a virtuous circle, working with young people who are underepresented in the arts to build her show while equipping them with the skills and confidence to develop their own ideas. They will use the experience, momentum and energy of Futurism 3.0 to run workshops, create a story and create a musical together.

- She has experimented with all kinds of new technologies, building new relationships with people keen to explore new uses for their products/skills. This includes working with Bristol company Holo-Gauze to explore hologram effects using projection, teaming up with fellow resident Matt Bjerregaard to customise drones as charaters in the story, using electro-luminescent wire on performers' costumes and creating a CGI alien landscape with an artist in Japan. On reflection the more significant challenge was finding the right people, not the right technology.

- There has been a ripple effect from making this show in an organic, iterative way to other aspects of her life. She now understands that she has a solution based, design thinking approach, this realisation has given her a proactive sense of her own agency in the world.

- She is interested in the subversive implications of that sense of power and aims to build a Future Leaders group, empowering young people to tackle social issues in Bristol using design thinking.
