Hi, my name is Nello Cristianini, I am a professor of Artificial Intelligence within the Intelligent Systems Laboratory of the University of Bristol.

Artificial Intelligence> My technical research is concerned with machine learning: the technology that allows computers to automatically extract useful information from experience or raw data. I also work on a project concerned with the design of Intelligent Agents. Currently I apply this to problems related to the design of web agents.

Media Content Analysis> My group and I are developing a web agent that can read the content of news and social media. We automatically extract information from that content, and we can use it in many ways, for example to support social science research. I am very excited about working with people from the social sciences, the arts and the humanities. One of the things we have been doing has been the analysis of collective mood based on the contents of Twitter. Another one has been the analysis of which words make people click on a news article. And also we have been looking at European media content and how content similarity between countries is related to things like their voting pattern in the Eurovision song contest. I would be happy to discuss new ways to visualise information, for example through images and movement.

Philosophical Issues> I am very interested in ethical problems involving Privacy in the digital world, or the development of persuasive technologies; in epistemological problems involving the automation of science, and also in conceptual issues concerning the nature of intelligent behaviour in animals and artificial agents.

I am hoping to find people interested in brainstorming.
