Clare is the CEO of Watershed and a Visiting Professor at University of the West of England.Yesterday morning we visited The Hub India, which at the moment is independent but is currently finalising a formal partnership with The Hub Network. It has been set up by the same team as Unlimited India (who I am meeting for dinner tomorrow) and so the relationship between them is very similar to the Studio and Media Sandbox.
Like other Hubs around the world, it supports social entrepreneurs with office space, funding, mentoring, training, hand-holding and events. Launched in July, its main offer is a community of like-minded people to share thoughts with. It has four categories of membership with package prices differing depending on how many hours people want to use the space for. It currently has 23 members and uses Unlimited India's database plus events and the web to find new members. Challenges for start-up entrepreneurs are company registration, getting legal support and accessing finance. The Hub manager supports them through these processes, facilitates communication and also inevitably takes a more social and caring role for them as people.
The space is great and it was fascinating to something run so (uncannily) similarly to The Studio and discuss the challenges faced. I was most delighted that they also do their version of Open Studio Friday once a month to encourage people to come in and that their photo wall (see images) is also almost identical to ours.
