Deaf Conversations About Cinema: In From The Side
Please note: This event took place in Sept 2022
Join us at the 18:00 screening of In From the Side on Mon 26 Sept which will feature Descriptive Subtitles and an introduction with a guest to be confirmed. This will be followed at 20:15 by a post-screening discussion in the Café & Bar with our guest. The evening will be hosted by Deaf artist, performer and filmmaker David Ellington and will feature BSL interpretation throughout.
Fresh from sold out screenings at this year's BFI Flare, writer-director Matt Carter’s debut feature explores life on and off the pitch at a gay rugby club in South London.
Mark (Alexander Lincoln), a new and inexperienced rugby club member, finds himself drawn to Warren (Alexander King), a seasoned, if a little bit cocky, first team player. When a series of happenstances at an away fixture lead to a drunken romantic and sexual encounter, Mark and Warren unwittingly embark on an affair they struggle to hide from their respective partners and teammates.
As the secret begins to unravel, team spirit, loyalties and camaraderie are tested in Carter’s sensitive story about forbidden love and finding your tribe.
Please join us in the Café/Bar for an informal discussion after the screening, which will include BSL interpretation. You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass and let us know your thoughts about In From the Side.
